Odex Saga: District Judge Earnest Lau’s Argument

Posted by Zhane | General | Saturday 25 August 2007 8:41 am

It has really taken an interesting turn. It used to be Odex is right, etc.. now, the judge who was handling the Pacnet case pointed out all the dubious rights and evidences that Odex claims to have. He even singled out Singnet, and explained why Singnet user’s info was released on uncontested grounds.

People are speculating, is this act of Singnet and possibly that of Starhub a result of their link to Temasek Holdings? Does this explains why the little resistance compared to what Pacnet had done with regarding to protecting their customers’ data? One thing for certain, many people aint happy with Singnet and are contemplating a switch to another ISP, and if Starhub do w/o an appeal, their customer pool will suffer the same fate as well.

I believe that this is only the start…more will come out of this Odex issue.

Odex Saga: Recent Events

Tons have been happening these few days with regard to the Odex issue. Clearly on media, everyone is on Odex’s side despite all the issues brought up by the net savvys. It seems that the bigger dudes out there are bent on eradicating anime from SG. What will happen to JP’s influence here then?

The above article was taken from The StraitsTimes on 17/8/07.

Even so, one hero has came up. Someone from the StraitsTimes itself..a senior editor it seems. Mr Andy Ho. He addressed all the issues that the anime downloaders have brought up, and shed light on both sides of the story. Thumbs up for him! At least he had given a fair view of things, not like other writters who seem to be siding a particular side. You may read what he had written, ” Anime downloading: An alternative perspective” here.

To add on, there are more cases of people burning Odex products now. You may check out this person’s blog for more details.

And.. a mysterious person by the nickname of Steph_Sing has appeared in the HWZ forum, threatening to take legal actions against forum members who have had the intentions of defaming him. If it is really him, he had really made a big issue out of everything. Isnt he a forumer too? Freedom of speech doesnt even exist on the net?

That person wrote ..
To all posters who intend to post stuff as related to thread title, please think twice.”

He’s threatening people who want to make comment on it again !_o
