Return of Mavis Hee 许美静
Do you remember Mavis Hee? Yep… the Singapore Singer who sang 城里的月光，带我走， 铁窗 and many others. How many of you grow up listening her songs? She was once a very popular singer. She was as well known as Kit Chan then. Then, in the midst of her all fame, she disappeared out of the music industry.
For many years there was no news about her until one day she suddenly created a ruckus in one of Singapore’s hotel, shouting to some hotel stayers,”Call me God!”. Attention was back on her. She was admitted to IMH shortly after.
After undergoing some treatment, she was discharged. Presented some award at MediaCorp’s Star Awards 2006 award presentation ceremony, spoke to the press about her conditions and revealed about singing again.
It’s been a while since then, and now… she’s back.
She has just released 2 new singles, liu xia ?? and bu zhi chu ??? as theme songs for a upcoming movie Anna & Anna by Ascension Pictures. Glad that she has been given a chance to come back despite having hit the news previously.
These 2 singles are those slow tempo sentimental ones. Lots of meaning behind the lyrics. Maybe it’s because that these 2 songs are quite different from those that she used to sing or perhaps its due to her being out of the market for too long, it’s kind of hard to immediately recognize her voice the moment you hear it. But nonetheless, they are good songs lah.
According to one of my friend who is her all time die hard fans, a MHD (mavis hee disease) sufferer, she is singing with more emotions now. I kind of agree to some extent. So… folks, you can probably give this girl some encouragement for singing again after all that she has been through.
